My friend Kristin’s mother makes this incredibly flavorful salad that I first tasted in Paris, and it’s now famously known in our circle as "Mom’s salad." It has simple yet fresh ingredients: tomatoes, avocado, onion, and cilantro—all among my favorites. It didn’t take me more than a minute to fall in love with Kristin’s mom’s salad. Inspired by her recipe, I transformed the salad into a salsa and added a touch of sweetness with strawberries. I paired it with a sea bass, and the combination was perfect, especially with a nicely chilled Sauvignon Blanc. In fact, I would say more than perfect—so perfect that later on, I decided it works wonderfully with any kind of fish or seafood. I even served it alongside some memorable langoustines. In short, a summer celebration on a plate!
The recipe for this fabulous salsa? Nothing could be simpler—just a combination of finely chopped ingredients:
Cherry tomatoes + strawberries + avocado + plenty of fresh cilantro + fresh basil leaves + finely chopped onion + high-quality extra virgin olive oil + the best balsamic vinegar you can find + Maldon sea salt crystals.
Mix everything well, let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld, and serve it, as I mentioned, alongside fresh fish or seafood, which will be perfectly complemented by the vibrant salsa.
